Aww look at my sweet girl!

Posted by Amelia on Apr 20, 2010 in The Interwebs, W

I have no idea what she is licking or why she is licking it. In our two years together I have learned not to ask such outrageous questions.

We all know she’s a bit of a blogaholic. In some smaller circles, there might even be a bit of a following for her blog, Two Dolla.  But as of today, I believe she may be entering the blog elite.  She was interviewed!  You can read that little bit of Interweb history here.

Back again! I promise!

Posted by Amelia on Mar 10, 2009 in The Interwebs, The World Outside

So, it’s been longer than I expected.  My break just kept extending itself, mostly because I just couldn’t think of anything of value to write about here.  A lot of things have happened and life has been outrageously busy!

I’m taking a sock knitting class.  It’s turning out to be much harder than I expected and I’m not even to the difficult parts!  I’m finding knitting on such fine needles with such thin yarn to be far more challenging.  I go back to class tonight and we’re actually going to get started on the next portion and learn to turn the heal.  So *that* should be interesting.

The Boy has gone to Space Camp and returned without disappearing up into orbit.  He had so much fun and I’m looking into a scholarship for next year.  They’ve already handed out all of the scholarships for this summer, so he’ll just have to wait.

He also finished his Science Fair competitions for the year.  He attended the Twin Cities Regional Science Fair and was awarded a Red Ribbon, which is a second level ribbon.  It was MUCH better than we anticipated and better than all the other sixth grade kids from his school.  Considering he was being judged against seventh grade students because he is in accelerated science classes, he did wonderfully.

This week is Spring Break and he’s staying with his dad during the days, so I’m not getting my afternoon fix of him every day.  He’ll be here as of Wednesday afternoon for my half of the week.  I’m about ready to burst with missing him.  (Give me until Friday morning around 10 and I’ll be over that!  Eleven is HARD!)

I’ve started participating in a fantastic project that Darling Best Friend is running.  It’s a one year photo project with 35 women.  We all take one photo daily and write up a brief description.  It’s really beautiful.  Women from all around the world with different lives and lifestyles.  If you get a chance, check it out.

Promise I won’t disappear for so long again!

Visual Stimulation

Posted by Amelia on Nov 19, 2008 in The Interwebs

I love photography.  Unfortunately, I’m not all that great with it.  Partially because I have no idea how to use my camera, but mostly because I just don’t have any talent.  At times, I was more able to capture the world around me exactly as I see it.   I want to show the colors of the tree outside our apartment window as it changes throughout the seasons.  I want to capture the texture of the yarn that I’m working with.  But my results are generally disastrous.

So, I was pretty excited when I found Acobox.com  You can find some gorgeous blog pictures there, including stuff like:

Blog Pictures | acobox.com

I know it isn’t my work, but it really does exactly what I am looking for, gives off vibrant color, makes me want to travel, and create.  And sometimes I just feel as though a post really needs some sort of visual content to really get the point across.  If I could find photographs as beautiful as that one  The site, unfortuantely, seems to have a fairly limited selection of photographs.  Hopefully that is something they are working on and it will begin to grow with time.  I know I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

Fancy new WordPress Theme

Posted by Amelia on Oct 6, 2008 in The Interwebs

I wish that I had the time and motivation to learn how to write themes for WordPress, but alas, I do not.  I have tried a number of times, but I always end up frustrated and ready to throw the computer out the window.  I gave up on “real” coding of websites back when XML began to take over a good bit of time ago.  Now I just tweak and play until the darn thing looks atleast somewhat how I want it to, and then pray that things don’t break.  When they do?  I just change themes.  I’m too lazy to figure out the breakages!

Today, I introduce you to Desk Mess by Laptop Geek.  I love it, because honestly, this is what my desk normally looks like.  Perhaps not the Matrix movie ticket and the iPhone is actually a Motorolla Razr, but you get the general idea.  OH! And the coffee?  I take mine black.  Thanks!

I do not intend for this blog to become overloaded with twitter updates. Bad timing for starting a blog equals good timing for me personally.

Two years ago, I met an interesting woman online but things being as they were in my life, we just never managed to connect. We tried to talk for awhile again last fall, but the crazy “only kiss you when I’m drunk” girl happened and things fell to the wayside again. A month ago, I had a date with one of way too young for me women that I seem to attract and we ended up heading to the bar for a drink after dinner. I saw W immediately and watched her throughout the night. Obviously, my date was going wonderfully. *wink* After I’d finally had a few beers, I used the excellent line of “Don’t I know you from the internet?” It was truly genius.

Things are fantastic. Scary fantastic. So wonderfully, amazingly fantastic that I find myself afraid to really write about it. Not that I would be able to find the words, but I’ll just leave it at that. Wonderfully amazingly fantastic.
